Highlights of the event:
“H.E Mr. Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Kingdom of Belgium and head of its mission to the European Union and NATO participated in a seminar on combating terrorism and violent extremism organized by the International Center for the Study of Violent Extremism in cooperation with the Middle East Dialogue Center on Friday 30 November 2018 in Brussels.”
“HE Mr. Gilles De Kerchove, European Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, Ms. Anne Speckhard, Director of the International Center for the Study of Violent Extremism, Mr. Gert Vercauteren, Head of Analysis at the Belgian Risk Assessment Panel, Ms. Beatrice Bouharmont, Of the Belgian Federal Police and Ms Mirjam Parre of the Dutch police, were the speakers participating in the seminar and the panel discussion.
“H.E Ambassador stressed that the State of Qatar attaches great importance to the issue of extremism and terrorism and participates in the international efforts in this field in addition to strengthening its national legislations to combat this phenomenon, noting the efforts of the State in combating the causes and roots of terrorism through education and economic empowerment in places of conflict such as Syria, Iraq and others. He referred to national initiatives such as education above all, Silatec and other projects that support Arab youth to prevent them from falling into the trap of extremism and terrorism.
“The Director of the International Center for the Study of Violent Extremism praised the State of Qatar's efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism and supported the Center in this regard.
“The speakers addressed the phenomenon of terrorism in Europe and the return of foreign fighters, and the methods followed by European countries to prevent extremism.
